Sara, As you probably already know, meth is a powerfully addictive stimulant that affects many areas of the central nervous system and causes dramatic chabges in the brain. It can also cause serious problems to a baby in the womb. Fortunately, during the past three years, due to a push by health care professionals in Wyoming, we've seen a substantial drop in meth use. Since you provided your e-mail address, I'm sending you some information, which I hope will be helpfu. Please let me hear from you.

I am curious if you may have a article or some more information on laws and consequences for pregnant women who use meth? I would love to read more or maybe I could ask you for a lead or two on where I would go to find out. thank you

Hello David! I came across your name and book during contact with Terri Gallant as I was conducting some genealogic research. If I have my math right, you and I are 3rd cousins once removed. As an avid baseball fan (and current player) and with a borderline obsession in genealogy, I plan to read your book as soon as it arrives. Thought you might be interested to hear from a distant cousin! Feel free to drop a line. Bob

Several readers of Echoes in the Wind, the biography I wrote about the life of my uncle, Guy Vitale, have noticed my occasional references in the book to the fact that Guy did not remain close to his family or old friends after he was discharged from the Army at the end of WWII. They wonder if, perhaps, his severing of family ties and distancing himself from friends, was a possible result of almost 180 days in combat under the severest of conditions; the kind of circumstances that made me shudder as I researched and wrote about them. While I'm sure that many soldiers returning after that war were suffering from mental trauma - what we now call Post-Traumatic Stress Syndrome, but which was then referred to as "shell shock," - I was not aware of it in my uncle at the time. Of course, I was just a kid, not attuned to observing things of that nature. That his homecoming was dampened, his re-entry into civilian life somewhat hobbled, is almost a certainty. In fact, I believe it was these problems that caused him to move from Boston no more than six months after his discharge, and take up residence in Washington, D.C., thus opening the door to the life he led thereafter. If, after you read the book, you'd like to share your thoughts about this with me, please feel free to do so.
